At BLC Laser Center, we use only the finest and newest laser technologies to remove unwanted hair. We offer laser hair removal with the Lightsheer Duet and the Coolglide laser. These laser hair removal systems are the Gold Standard in the industry. They are the newest, fastest and most reputable technologies for laser hair removal. Investigate yourself and you will see that we carry only the best technologies available today.

The Lightsheer Duet is a diode laser which is FDA approved for all skin types. We use this system for skin types I through V. This system is used for both large and small areas. For larger areas such as full back, legs or full body treatments, most clients appreciate our high speed hand piece which allows us to reduce treatment times by more than 50%. Laser hair removal with the Lightsheer Duet not only reduces the time for treatment of large areas, it is much less painful than traditional laser systems. Most clients actually refer to this system as pain free.

The Coolglide is an Nd-Yag (1064nm) laser which is also a Gold Standard for laser hair removal for ALL skin types. Although this laser is effective for all skin types, it has been awarded the best laser for laser hair removal of darker skin types. The Coolglide bypasses the skin, in turn bypassing the pigment in the skin. Since this system targets only the melanin in the root of the hair and not the skin, this makes for an effective treatment of darker skin types as well as for those who have tanned skin. The Coolglide laser for hair removal also has a built in cooling system for maximum epidermis protection.

We always recommend coming in for a complimentary consultation with us so we may assess the area of concern and provide you with realistic expectations based on your hair and skin type. Consultations are usually a half hour to an hour at length depending on how many questions you have. We pride ourselves on educating our clients on laser hair removal and all of our laser procedures. We will take the time ensure that you are comfortable and confident in our team of professionals.

How does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Have you ever tweezed a hair from your head or body and noticed that sometimes it has a large bulb, sometimes it has a clear root and at other times it has no root at all? What you are witnessing is the stages of hair growth. Laser hair removal is a process. The reason why you require more than one treatment is because we can only get rid of hair permanently when it is in the growing stage so when the hair has a full root.

Laser hair removal works on the principle of selective thermolysis. The target for laser hair removal is pigment which is why the greater the contrast between the skin and the hair, the better the results. The laser seeks the dark pigment within the root of the hair and generates heat preventing re-growth.

Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Hair grows in continuous cycles. The anagen or growth phase of hair contains the largest amounts of melanin and this phase is the laser's target. From scientific studies we understand that any area contains a maximum of 20-30% of anagen hairs at one time, thus, these anagen hairs are affected each treatment. Most clients will require a minimum of 5 treatments. Repeated sessions are necessary. Finer hair and dark skin clients may require 6-8 treatments. If you suffer from a hormone imbalance your treatments may be ongoing. To have effective treatments it is imperative that they be sequenced. Every client's expectations of hair loss are different. Some may be happy with 50-60% loss and may want to discontinue and others will want to continue until they reach their maximum loss of 80-95%.
After a treatment the skin may be red and bumpy. This is absolutely normal. Post treatment, we recommend protecting the area from the sun to avoid any additional heat to the area, as well as avoiding activities such as exercise, saunas, and other activities which may irritate the area or induce heat for 24-48 hours immediately after treatment. The area should be moisturized with a soothing cream and cleansed with a mild soap as advised by our laser technicians.
Try to avoid sun exposure. Hair can be more aggressively treated without a fresh tan. Having hair is essential to having a successful treatment. You can not wax, tweeze, thread or have electrolysis for 4 weeks before a treatment. The best way to manage hair before is to shave, trim, or use cream depilatories. The day of your treatment the hair will need to be freshly shaved.
The laser will not create ingrown hairs. If you suffer from them the laser will produce an effective treatment to clear the ingrown hairs.
